Cannes Facts

Airport

Nice Côte d'Azur international airport Nice airport is approximately 30 minutes to one hour up the coast from Cannes, depending on the traffic. Nice is a difficult area in which to drive, although the airport is close to the autoroute heading directly to Cannes. Try not to rely on public transport since, although the French train system is good, the airport is some distance from the train station in Nice and this would delay your journey considerably. Car rental is available, as are taxi, limousine and helicopter transfers. Expect the taxi ride to cost about 450 FRF.

Visas

Nationals of the EU, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Israel do not require visas to visit France as tourists for up to three months. Except for people from a handful of other European countries, everyone else must have a visa.

Currency
euro (EUR), formerly French franc (FF)
Single European currency (Euro): The Euro is now the official currency of 12 EU member states (including France). The first Euro coins and notes were introduced in January 2002; the French Franc was still in circulation until 17 February 2002, when it was completely replaced by the Euro. Euro (€) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of €2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.

Credit Cards
American Express, Diners Club, Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted. Check with your credit or debit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services which may be available.

Tipping
Expect service to be included in restaurants; you will invariably find that the service charge will be indicated on the menu, and is probably about 15%. However, you should also leave a small tip as you leave if you feel that the service deserved it, as the pre-included service charge does not necessarily go to your waiter. Similarly, porters, taxidrivers and others are likely to expect a small tip of some kind- usually, for taxi drivers it is enough to round your bill up to the nearest ten or hundred francs.
